About the Owner

Kahnawake’s 1st Community Station is independently owned and operated by Station Manager and Executive Producer Regan Jacobs. She started the company within one year after graduating from Concordia University’s prestigious Journalism program in 2000 with a BA. Jacobs purchased channel 4 than named the Channel Mohawk TV, which began airing originally produced programs  that same year. Over the years Jacobs has also trained with Canadian Management Center with her focus in business.

Majority of Mohawk TV’s costs are covered by advertisement sales. Companies, organizations, and government agencies wishing to target Kahnawake’s audience have all signed on as advertisers on the various programs. Mohawk TV’s continued success is largely based the support from the community of Kahnawake and neighbouring municipalities.

Jacobs, who plays a major role in the business community, also established7 Generations Daycare Center in 2009, which quickly grew and underwent an expansion in May of 2011. The center services over 36 families and has 10 full time staff members.

She is active in many areas of the community and has two children. Along with being a proud member of the Mohawks of Kahnawake, Jacobs also has many family ties in the state of NY to the prominent Slater family.

Jacobs is working on the following Projects Independant of Mohawk TV:

  • Documentary on Native Veterans: A project which was chosen, supported and funded through the Canada Council for the Arts.
  • I-87: Currently in the works…is a made for TV movie that follows the lives of 3 ironworkers whose trade takes them across Canadian/US borders in pursuit of their livelyhood. As they build some of the worlds biggest skyscrappers in America, a story of love, family, tradition combined with tragedy unfolds that will lead them down a path that will test their friendship, courage and honor.
